Working after you receive your pension

Learn more about working after taking your retirement balance and how it could affect you.

The impact of working while receiving your pension

Being a pensioner member of the Retirement Balance Plan (RBP) means you have already taken your retirement balance and chosen to take a pension from the RBP. However, you may wish to work while in receipt of your pension. Please read on for further information.

If you have chosen to transfer out of the RBP or take your retirement balance as a pension with another provider, then you are not considered a pensioner with the RBP and will need to speak to your new pension provider for more information about returning, or continuing, to work.

If you are looking for more information on late retirement - taking your retirement balance after reaching your normal retirement date (NRD) - please go to the taking your retirement balance page instead.

If you are thinking about flexible retirement (taking your benefits but still working for Uniper) please contact the Company's HR team.

You should speak to the Company's HR team if you are thinking about returning to work for Uniper while receiving your benefits.

In most cases, as long as you started taking your benefits after the Normal Minimum Pension Age (NMPA), there will be no restrictions on you going to work for any employer, or becoming self-employed in the future.

The NMPA is set by the government and is currently age 55, rising to age 57 from 2028.

Working while taking your pension may have an impact on the amount of income tax you pay.

Visit the government website for more details.

If you have any questions about working while receiving your benefits from the RBP, please speak to your current or prospective employer in the first instance. Alternatively, you can raise a query with Uniper's HR team.

You may also want to get independent financial advice. Go to the help and advice page for more details.
